Tourism in Bulgaria is set to continue its gradual recovery over the next five years. In 2021, Bulgarian tourist arrivals were estimated at 7.1 million, a 0.7% decrease compared to the previous year. This is the lowest figure reported since 2000, when the number of arrivals fell by 7.7%. At the same time, Bulgaria's tourism receipts are expected to reach $1.4 billion this year, a slight increase of 0.2%. This is still 3% lower than the receipts reported in 2000. Over the next five years, Bulgarian tourist arrivals and receipts are expected to grow steadily, reaching 8.5 million arrivals and $1.7 billion in receipts by 2026.
