South Africa's wheat consumption is predicted to increase slightly to 3.5 million metric tons by 2026, according to a report. In 2021, the country consumed 3.35 million tons, a 0.7 percent decrease from 2017. South Africa ranked 29th in 2021, behind Saudi Arabia, with 3.35 million tons. India, the United States and Pakistan ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, South Africa's wheat production is forecast to decline by 1.2 percent annually to 1.45 million metric tons by 2026. Since 1966, production has decreased by 3.9 percent year-on-year. In 2021, South Africa was 42nd in the ranking, behind Belgium with 1.56 million metric tons. India, Russia and the United States were in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
