In 2018, Mozambique imported 12 thousand metric tons of coconut, an increase of 3 thousand tons from the 9 thousand imported in 2017. This puts the country in 19th place in the international ranking, with Nigeria overtaking them with 223 thousand metric tons. India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka followed, respectively, in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place. By 2026, Mozambican coconut production is projected to reach 200 thousand metric tons, a 1.9% year-on-year decrease from the 221 thousand metric tons it achieved in 2021. This is a 2.2% decrease in production since 1966.
