Air travel in Japan is set for a modest growth in the next five years, according to a recent report. Passenger traffic is expected to increase by around 3.8% each year, from 53.8 million people in 2021 to 60.7 million people in 2026. This follows a 14.5% decrease since 1975. In 2021, Japan ranked 6th in the world for air passenger traffic, behind Russia, the United States, India, Ireland, and Germany. Meanwhile, airline revenue in Japan is expected to increase by 0.3% on average each year, from $2.46 billion in 2021 to $2.74 billion in 2026. This follows a 1.8% decrease since 2013. In 2021, Japan ranked 11th in the world for airline revenue, behind Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and others.
