Qatar is set to be one of the world's biggest importers of weapons over the next five years. According to estimates, its imports of arms will reach $1.9 billion by 2026, up 4.3% year on year on average. This is an increase from $1.2 billion in 2021. Since 1975, Qatari demand for weapons has grown by an average of 5.1% each year. In 2021, the country was the sixth largest importer, behind China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and South Korea. Qatar's weapon exports also increased significantly in 2019, hitting $11 million, up 266.7% from $3 million the previous year.
